Wikipedia Blackout Day

Wikipedia is protesting against SOPA and PIPA by blacking out the English Wikipedia for 24 hours, beginning at midnight January 18, Eastern Time. Readers who come to English Wikipedia during the blackout will not be able to read the encyclopedia. Instead, you will see messages intended to raise awareness about SOPA and PIPA, encouraging you to share your views with your representatives, and with each other on social media.

How does it feel without Wikipedia?

So, I was searching something online today. One of the first few results showed a Wikipedia page, so I automatically clicked on it. I forgot that it’s ‘Wikipedia blackout day’ today. I guess most of us are used to going to Wikipedia pages when we need general information. Wiki is such a big help when it comes to this. So, NO to SOPA and PIPA!

Flowers For Mom

This Christmas, aside from a wonderful gift for my mother, I want to send her a bouquet of tulips and orchids. Those two are her favorite flowers. She has different species of orchids in our yard. Those are her babies. She even talks to them!

I do not remember the last time my dad gave flowers to my mom. I do not think she would be expecting any flower delivery. That would be a sweet surprise!

Essential Retail System

It has always been my dream to have my own business. For sure I am not the only one whose goal is to be their own boss. When I go shopping, I also observe how the business is being handles inside the retail store. What equipment do they have in the store that makes the transaction more efficient. What Retail POS System do they use? How do they deal with the customers? I have business ideas in my mind but I haven’t seriously looked into the feasibility of these ideas. Probably next year, I will seriously consider one of the ideas that I have. If I have a budget, then I’d go for it!

Electric Bass

I have always been interested in learning to play musical instruments. I know I am not gifted with a talented voice. That’s why I want to focus on playing instruments such as electric bass. Learning how to play a Fender Precision Bass has always been a dream for me. When I get the chance, I want to enroll in a class that would teach me how to play different musical instruments. I will be making a list of things that I want for 2012. Hopefully, next year, I’d be able to do everything that is on my list.

Unlucky

There were series of unfortunate things that happened to me the past weeks. I am hoping that things will eventually get better. Some have it worse so I don’t really have the right to complain. I am trying my best to do something about the situation. But sometimes, I can’t help but get depressed about things. I should have been so happy these days but because I trusted some people too much, I had to deal with the consequences.

I learned my lesson. I guess there’s no use of worrying about things we can’t change. I’ll update you when I get everything sorted out.

In Times of Emergency

Before this year ends, I would like to learn how to drive. I wonder what kind of driver will I become. When crossing the street, I am extremely cautious. I wait until the road is clear before I cross the street. I hope to be a cautious driver as well. But no matter how careful you are when driving, some unexpected things can happen. So I hope I would be able to call a reliable emergency roadside assistance anytime whenever the need arises.

Slippery When Wet

I remember one time, I fell flat on my butt in the garage because the floor was so slippery. I told my dad what happened and he said he’ll do something about the floor on the garage. He noticed too that it’s really slippery and he almost slipped a few times. He needed garage floor coating to make the floor slip resistant. He actually took care of it right away to avoid worst accidents that can happen there.

RZR For My Brother

Little boys are often given toy cars as gifts. So what do we expect them to be wishing for when they grow older? My brother would love to have a rzr someday. He said he wanted one with the best rzr power steering so that he can use it even on the roughest terrains. I told him he better start saving for it now if he is really serious about purchasing a rzr a few years from now.

For DOST Scholars – How To Get A Permanent Travel Clearance From The Bureau of Immigration

So, I already have my clearance letter from DOST addressed to the Bureau of Immigration to allow me to travel out of the country.

So, how did I get to the Bureau of Immigration located in Intramuros, Manila? It’s not really that complicated but I am not sure if this is the best route. From Cubao, I took the MRT then the LRT. I got off the train at Central Station. When I got out of the station, I was clueless on how to go to the BI office. There’s a tricycle/pedicab station nearby, and the driver ask me if I am going to the BI. I wonder how he was able to read my mind. I probably looked lost.

I asked him how much is the fare and he said I have to pay 50 pesos so that we won’t have to wait for other passengers. That seems pricey but I agreed.

When I got to the BI office, the guard told me to go to Window 17. When I told the person at Window 17 that I need my travel clearance, he told me to read the instructions posted on the window. It says go to Window 12 to get my derogatory printout.

So I presented the lady at Window 12 the original letter from the DOST and the photocopy. After a few minutes later, she gave me the printout. I went back to Window 17. The guy at Window 17 got the original letter and stamped the photocopy. He told me to go back after 3 business days.

I’ll let you know the next steps when I’ll go back to the BI office.

When I got out of the building, I took a pedicab going back to the LRT station. But I have seen jeepneys a few blocks away, and if I am not mistaken, the jeepneys are going to/from Lawton.

By the way, I am not sure if there is a difference in the steps/requirements if you are getting a temporary travel clearance.
