My Favorite Anime

My favorite anime is Sailormoon. Do you wonder why girls in anime look so cute? Those big anime eyes, big hair and long legs, make them very appealing.

Anime originated in Japan. Don’t you find it ironic that they have big eyes rather than small eyes? No, it does not have anything to do with Asian inferiority complex. I searched for an answer online why animes are often characterized with huge eyes. Take note that not all anime has the big eye style but certainly most of them do.

The first person to use that style is credited to Tezuka Osamu. He is considered the “father” of anime. He created the old Astro Boy TV series, one of the various  popular TV shows that became the foundation for Japan’s animation and comic industry. It was said that he was trying to emulate the Betty Boop style which was popular in Japan at that period. Other cartoon characters older than anime that are popular also has big eyes. An example of this is  Mickey Mouse.

It was made that way because people generally perceive big eyes to be attractive. Babies have proportionally bigger eyes compared to adults.
