How Long Was Your Longest Relationship?
Posted by pink on October 29, 2008
Mine was 7 years. What happened? It ended, finally. We have what I call a love-hate relationship. We were very much in love with each other but the next minute we wanted to kill each other. It was a roller coaster ride of emotion. Looking back, I don’t know if it was really love or just attachment (which I mistook for love).
When you are with a person for a very long time, it’s not easy to give it up especially if you have invested a lot. For me, the most risky kind of investment is emotional investment. It’s very difficult to recover and it can leave you wounded for the rest of your life. But I am glad it was finally over. Actually, it had been over long before it finally ended.
It took a lot of courage to end a relationship that had been a part of my existence for 7 years. I am not a hypocrite if I would say it was not painful, but I saw it coming. When it finally ended, I felt relieved. I felt alive once again. After that relationship, I am loving myself more.

This is off topic sis. I bought Twilight na. =) If you’re from Manila, dropped by at Trinoma’s National Bookstore. They have just restocked the other day. ^_^

Elaine,
How could anyone do such a thing to you?
I mean 7 years!!! Yah, that’s a lot of investment. Ohh, I supposed to answer you Post title…hahaha.
How long was my longest relationship?
Hmmm,lemme s@@….
My first girlfriend – barely two years. She was too hot tempered. LOL!
My second girlfriend – about three years. We almost got married BUT I decided against it because she is the ONLY daughter of a very traditional Chinese family. The family treated me like some outcast because I am of mixed blood parentage. I could see real problems even though our love was strong. She understood me and we’re still great friends.
I am glad that you’ve found inner peace after your decision. Life is full of twists and turns. Be strong!

wow, this is an interesting topic! well elaine, it’s good to know that you have finally let yourself out of the love-hate relationship, although i also know that it was very painful. 7 years is already a long one, and the familiarity would be hard to drive out. Bravo for a very strong woman like you!
my longest relationship would be with my hubby, and we are also 7 years married already, hehehe.

@ windmill, I think my ex was also hot tempered, but I just got used to it. lol well, we broke up for a lot of reasons. I think it’s better that way.
@naomi, yes you are right, “the familiarity would be hard to drive out”. But moving on is a better option.

very cool question. my current is my longest – 7 years. it took almost all 7 for us to get to where we are and appreciate each other and love like we do.

Awww Elaine,
This is surely not the best of moments for me to philosophise anything.
Most importantly and as I read, it is reassuring that you are being positive about it.
I am happy that you have found self composure.
I wish I could be as strong as you.
