title pic Gia – Everyone Saw the Beauty, No One Saw the Pain

Posted by pink on July 25, 2008

Before Angelina Jolie became really famous, I have watched a movie topbilled by her entitled “Gia” in HBO. Well, my first impression of Angie is that she’s the sexiest woman I have seen on tv and her face (and body of course!) is oozing with sex appeal.  Fast forward, she’s one of Hollywood’s top paying actresses.

But this post would be more about the late Gia Carangi (rather than Angelina Jolie whom every normal people in this planet knows).  Gia was an American a famous fashion model during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Some would refer to her as the world’s first supermodel (but this title had also been used to refer to other supermodels as well such as Lisa Fonssagrives and Janice Dickinson). Her rise to fame at a young age was phenomenal but her addiction to drugs got the best of her. Carangi died in 1986 due to AIDS,  then a newly recognized disease.

I think Angelina gave justice to the role she played. It was a very moving tale of a beautiful woman in pain. It was unfortunate that AIDS awareness was not promoted in those days.
